Kaleen BioBlitz 2020
Are you interested in being a citizen scientist and contributing to a national database of biodiversity data? Would you like to make a bee hotel or pick up a native plant to take home?
If YES, then come and join us at the Kaleen BioBlitz to be held on November 20-21, 2020.
A BioBlitz is a citizen science event that aims to find as many species as possible in a given location over a short period of time. Some BioBlitzes have even resulted in the discovery of new species!
The aim of the Kaleen BioBlitz is to gather baseline data about the non-human (flora and fauna) members of our local community. We will focus on insects, birds, frogs, fungi and plants, but who knows what we might find!
Having this information will improve knowledge of local biodiversity and help us to identify and promote some simple steps we can all take to support biodiversity in our homes and broader community.
The website will be updated with our results in the weeks following the BioBlitz so stay tuned

Registration is important to ensure we are compliant with COVID-19 requirements. To keep everyone safe, participants are required to comply with all COVID-19 restrictions. This includes maintaining 1.5 metres of distance among participants, ensuring excellent hygiene measures are taken (regular hand washing/ sanitising) are taken and making sure no one attends if they are unwell or are awaiting results from a COVID-19 test.
This event is funded by the ACT Government’s Adopt-a-Park Community Grant scheme and is an initiative of the Maribyrnong Climate and Environment Action Group in collaboration with Ginninderra Catchment Group.
Acknowledgement of Country: We wish to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which this BioBlitz will take place, the Ngunnawal people. We wish to acknowledge and respect their continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region.
